My Review

What a story and testimony of trails and faith.  We listened to the sound track from the movie first before reading the book.  The song Alone Yet Not Alone sung by Joni Eareckson Tada is sure to touch many to the point of tears. I know it sent me to prayer.  Being the Historical Fiction lover I am  and loving it when story is based on truth, I just loved this book. As I read it to the children they too loved it.  It led us to know that we truly do not have life hard today.  The Author Tracy Leininger Cravens book weaves the tale of her family's history so well and I just love the way she describes the setting and the account of happenings set back in 1755.   I love that this family had such a strong faith in God and it showed in their daily living.  I love the Fathers leading of the family through his words of faith though he knew they would have trails to deal with. I loved the Mothers strong sense of duty to her family and her love for her children. I also loved the faith the children had for parents in this story.  This is a story of Courage, Faith and learning to fully trust God in all of life.  I hope you will get a copy of this book and read it to your children so that they can see and know that Faith is never to be taken for granted and life is to be lived in sincere and true faith toward God and others.  We can't wait to see the Movie in June !

My Review

I am so glad that I was chosen to review this book.  I know now that the Lord wanted me to read this at this time. I was searching for time to be with the Lord and searching for a better way to teach my children about God and his love. One of my fondest memories was of  my mom reading her bible sitting on the couch.  So I wanted my children to have the same memories of me and if they remembered one thing  about me I wanted it to be that I loved Jesus and had a personal relationship with him. One in which I spent time in the Word and Prayed and they saw me doing these things.  But it seems that life always somehow gets in the way at times from allowing me personal time with the Lord.  And surely I needed to practice Grace even in times of  chaos !  If you seem to find no time to be personal with the Lord, this is the book for you. Julia shares with you how to make those things real and happen in your life. You will learn how to make God a habit. How to let others into your life. You will read about real submission and God's will. How to build a firm foundation through study of the Word. My Review

Well this was the first book of Tracie's I have read and I cannot say I am disappointed !  I just loved this story so much. It was captivating as I love historical fiction and I love a great tale of trails and intense love being shown. I liked it due to its intense scenes and the way it just kept me on the edge of my seat.  I needed a story right now of the trials of life being overcome by love and faithfulness to God.  I love more that someone sees their need for salvation and true freedom.  Marty is a strong woman who though facing pain and heartache she overcomes with God's help and the help of others.  I feel so blessed to have read A Sensible Arrangement.  It is a story of overcoming and a story of Hope.  It is a romance that is intense and yet sweet in every way.  It made me smile, it made me cry and yes I even sighed more then once !  Mostly I hated to see the story end where it did and I can't wait to read Tracie's next book, surely there has to be a sequel to this riveting tale !  You will just love this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great love story. Who loves the truth and knows that it is God's love that truly sets us free! You won't be disappointed...

My Review

Having been married a few times from the age of 19 to the present, this book really sounded of interest. We all have issues, hang ups and addictions. Some good , some not so good and some bad. The key is how to find happiness and how to make others and ourselves happy.  Marriages are not always happy. Marriage is Work ! It is not the meeting of two perfect people, it is the meeting and mixing of two imperfect people .  It is the relationship of those two people loving, forgiving and living.  Each with their own likes, loves and faults.  So how do we become happy ?  How do we make our marriage happy ?  How do we see beyond the things that drive us nuts about or mates and see them for their inner self and learn to love them for who they are ?

When I started reading Making Happy I was sceptical at best. Life is not all sunshine and roses !  But as I read I saw things that really made sense to me and may make sense to you too !  If being happy is one of your goals

I received 3 pair of black socks to review. About a week ago I started to wear my wearever socks exclusively. Each Day changing my socks  and washing the pair from the day before in a warm water wash and using the dryer.  I love how soft they are.  I love that they are light weight yet they keep my feet warm without making them sweat. Even my mom said they are so soft. They are 100% cotton and use no elastic or synthetics, but they fit perfectly on my feet. They do not bunch up at all and are not binding on my feet . I was having a problem with edema and between watching my salt intake and wearing these socks , those issues are gone.  I believe these would make a wonderful sock for those with foot problems or those with diabetes.  These are a nice dress sock as well as a good everyday sock. So whether your going to take a walk or your going to church these make a great sock for all occasions.  I highly recommend them to anyone.

 My Review

Don't let the dark color fool you, it won't discolor your face at all.  It has a nice pleasant scent and it lathers really well.  I have been using it by wetting my face thoroughly with warm water and lathering the soap on my hands and then rubbing it into my face really good.  Then rinsing my face with warm water.  Patting it dry.  I love the softness of my skin. I also love that there is no greasy residue.  I love the soft moisturized feel of my skin.  I also love that it is getting rid of acne due to hormone imbalance and shrinking my pores down so that I am getting no more break outs. My face has an all over moisturized feel to it.  If you are looking for a nice reasonably priced soap to get rid of acne, this is probably a good answer for you. It sure is working for me.  I would say that the price is well worth it ! I have told my preteen daughter to use it as she is complaining about breaking out on her face. We will keep using the Dead Sea Mud Soap and enjoying the benefits it brings us.  I am using this on my son who has eczema and he says that now he has no more itching on his hands.  This is an awesome benefit to our whole family.

My Review

We received The Wise Woman with Literary Analysis Journal Questions from Home School Adventure Co. in the Digital Download format to read and review.  I am so glad that I received this format. Its had allowed me to print off the chapters for the girls and they can read or follow along as I read it to them. I have to say I was sceptical at first about fables with a christian allegory, but this one surprised me.  It is so full of realistic comparisons in life and how we handle them. It is also full of wisdom and answers to those issues dealt with.

We set out to daily read a chapter and think on the questions. We ended up spending more then a day on each chapter and really delving deeper into the meaning of each part of the story and trying to relate it to our lives and letting things really reach into our hearts and change us for the better.  I believe this helped us right now as we were going through some hard things.  It has personally taught me to never give up on areas of needed change and to be firm yet loving in discipline and discipling of my children. After all being a godly mother and teacher of my children requires me to be ever seeking the Lord and His ways.

I loved the way we could read the story and then think and meditate on the questions. Thinking through things and I believe it has really helped us to get a better focus on issues in life.  The children were excited to hear more each day and get to spend family time reading this wonderful story. It has brought us closer together and helped us to focus on what truly matters in life and that in all we do we need to be diligent and seek right ways. I think this would work well for Homeschools, Small Groups, Youth Groups, Ladies Groups or a family centered church ministry.

The children and I learned things about ourselves and our own character without knowing we were at first. It is very thought provoking and easy to understand.  My girls liked it as it has The Wise Woman and in many ways she to them was like the fairy god mother, yet she always was showing Gods righteousness and love.  To me she is what all us mothers strive to be like and to have the godly and wholesome answers to issues in life.  We so need today to seek out great reads for our families and this is surly one great read for the whole family.

I hope you will give this book a try and share it with your homeschool group and friends.  It was a real blessing to us in so many ways. It has helped to mold us into what the Lord would have us to be and it is so wonderful how books can bring us into deeper thought on so much in life. It has led us to deeper discussions after each chapter was read and it will continue to be talked about even after reading the whole story and study.

About Laura

I was born and raised in Kentucky, living first in Ashland, Mammoth Cave, Bowling Green, and then Lexington. But my heart has always been in Berea, Madison County, the place my family has resided since the 18th-century. I came to know Christ there at the age of 12, was baptized, and spent my childhood roaming through the woods and swimming in the rivers of my books.

My earliest memories are of the public library, standing in front of shelves filled with those little biographies of famous historical figures like Daniel Boone and George Washington and Sacajawea. I began scribbling stories at age 7 and thankfully never stopped. My passion then and now is history and all the wonders of past centuries.

I attended college at Denison University in Ohio and also in England, living in a manor/castle and studying the American Revolution from the British perspective. Shakespeare and 18th-century literature form the backbone of my English degree. Strangely enough, I only took one creative writing class.

It was never a desire of mine to be published. I simply love to write for the sheer joy of writing – and that was enough. But as Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

About the Author

I am the author of seven novels. Five adult novels and two middle grade readers. I never wanted to do anything else but write and every day I wake up astonished that I get to do what I always dreamed about. My days are filled with words and images along with the usual family stuff. I have three children, Rebekah who is married to Joshua. They have three of the most adorable boys on the planet, Lemuel, Cedar and Soren. My daughter Emily Kate is a lovely young woman anthropologist and my son Adam is fourteen and a student--he's a genius who loves frogs and lizards and fish and plants. He amazes me.

I have never eaten a scallop. I love cream soda. Drink way too much coffee. I do not like elevators but I do enjoy needle arts and of course books. I prefer jazz over country (no offense), milk chocolate over dark, but not roller coasters although my life has often resembled a roller coaster ride.

One of my life's desires is to meet Amy Grant so I can tell her she saved my life.

My Review

I am not usually one for stories set in any war time setting and really hate tragedy.  This book has kept me on my seat and really made me feel the feelings of the characters.  It has sad times and it has happy times. I love the way the quilt relates in this story, to bring it all together. This is a story of love.  It is also a story of Devotion and Faith. I didn't cry, but I could sure feel the pain and heartache. If your a history lover as I am you will love this story. Also if your military you will love this story too. You may want to get some tissues and it might touch you a little deeper then it did me.  I would recommend this as one of the well put together quilts of love series.  I hope you will give it a try and see just how touching it truly is.

My Review of Curiosity Quest Dvd Combo Packs

Curiosity Quest

 I am so excited today to be sharing my review of Curiosity Quest  DVD Combo Pack  series . We received  a DVD combo pack - Produce (Mushrooms, Cranberries, Orange Packing) and also a DVD combo pack - Swimmers of the Sea (Sea Turtle Rescue, Penguins, Salmon) .  Each episode is only 30 mins long and packed with so much excitement and learning  to hold your child's and your attention ! These DVD's are geared toward children ages 7 to 14 years old.

$24.95In this first series we were so excited to learn on the  harvesting of Oranges, Cranberries and Mushrooms. The children were not so excited about mushrooms as I was , they are one of my favorite things to eat ! But we were all very excited about Oranges and Cranberries.  We live in an area ourselves with Orchards of Apples and Peaches, so learning about a fruit from a tree and the handling of it from start to finish was a wonderful thing for us.

Oranges

This Curiosity Quest episode is all about the harvesting to the  shipping of the oranges grown in Middle California.  This episode takes us to Dinuba, CA to a commercial orange grove. where they grow 2400 acres of oranges. We learned where and how they grow. All about harvesting them and handling  of them during this process. Then we went to the plant where they ripen them and prepare them to ship all over the world.  We learned a lot from watching this episode and really enjoyed it a lot.

Mushrooms

This Curiosity Quest episode on Mushrooms, allowed us to find out how mushrooms are grown.  It took us to Watsonville, CA to the largest fresh mushroom grower in the United States. We learned everything from the growing, harvesting and each step that is done to bring us a fine and tasty mushroom. It was fun to see the host participating and learning about all the aspects of Mushroom Production.

Cranberries

This Curiosity Quest episode on Cranberries, brought us into the Cranberry Bogs to see first hand what is entailed in the production and harvesting of the Cranberry.  It took us to Wisconsin to the largest cranberry grower in the country. We got to learn all about the growing, harvesting and care of cranberries. We loved the funny antics of the host of the show and we know that cranberries are very tart in taste. We laughed alot  We also learned that the Cranberry is Wisconsin's State Fruit !  Being a lover of cranberry juice, I loved this topic. They are also very healthy for us.

 

$24.95Since my children love living things and the care of them this series on Swimmers of the Sea really caught their attention. We love eating Salmon and know that just north of us here in NY is the Salmon River and many are caught each year to eat. The children loved the movie Happy Feet so they loved learning about Penguins from this DVD.  When we lived by the river two years ago we had snapping turtles and paint turtles, so they really liked learning about the Sea Turtles to !

Penguins

This Curiosity Quest episode allowed us to learn  more about Penguins.  We were taken to The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA.  We got to see a very in depth look at the various Penguins at the aquarium. We learned all about the preparation of their food  and also their  health care . We learned what they like to eat and what they sound like.  The children just loved this , as they love animals alot. It was fun to watch the host of the show cringe at handling fish and trying to make the sounds the penguin make !

Sea Turtles

Curiosity Quest Goes Green in this episode features sea turtles.  We were taken to  Marathon, Florida where we got to explores a sea turtle rescue, rehabilitation, and release center and meet all kinds of turtles.We got to see an in depth look at the process used to save sea turtles. They have saved over 1300 sea turtles.  We learned what they eat, according to where they live.  We got to meet the caretaker of the sea turtles and also see some of the injuries they may have sustained. We learned they can weight from 600 to 2000 lbs. We were amazed at the vast size of the turtles. We learned so much and the kids just loved seeing the turtles. They also house a rare and endangered species of sea turtle !

We got to see hatchlings as well !

Salmon

 Curiosity Quest final episode we watched was  about Salmon.  We traveled with the host to the mouth of Sheep Creek in Juneau, Alaska. We got to see how salmon are maintained and protected . This was an in depth look at the process of rehabilitating the salmon population.  We got to see the  amazing process by which salmon swim upstream and how they spawn.  The host was so funny going in bare foot to feel the fish swim around him and he was feeling the fish.  Most of America's Salmon for consumption come from Alaska.   We learned that King Salmon are the largest Salmon and can grow up to 100 lbs ! Thats one huge fish !

My Thoughts on Curiosity Quest Dvd Combo Packs

These DVDs were full of fun facts and real fascinating facts about so many topics. Each topic was sent to them by a viewer who was curious about those things showed to us.  Not only were they fun but they were satisfying in that we learned so much  about the topic.  They held my childrens attention and my own.  We were amazed that so much work goes into Harvesting Produce and Caring for Animals.  I like that Curiosity Quest has many ways to join them in attaining the Dvds, which makes it affordable for the homeschool family. I highly recommend this to everyone who would like to have Dvds for Science or Home Economics Classes. They also allowed us to visit places we never would have gotten to go to. They make wonderful field trips.  We just loved them.

A Few Days ago I was asked by Adovia to try their Purifying Mud Mask, which I wholeheartedly agreed to do. We decided that the girls and I would have a Spa Time and give it a try !  Yesterday I shared this Mask with my sweet friend Amanda, she liked the smell of it just as much as I did !  I told her I was going to do this Spa time with my girls and see what they thought.

So Today was our Spa Day !

We all cleaned our faces and then we took turns applying the mask, of course Faith wasn't brave so she used another mask but thats ok, we needed something to compare to right !
