My Reveiw:
Well I have to admit that in the start of the book, I chuckled alot. Viewing his family scene was sorta really funny. I know that sometimes family get togethers are full of some ackward happenings. I got bogged down in the plethora of words after that and skipped to the meat of the matter at hand. I was trying to find the Secrets of Happy Families that Bruce said were in here. Thinking well if I can find the answers to sibling rivalry and how to make the kids happy , while all the time seeking a way to spend time building my marriage , I would be golden ! Sometimes it is good to get a mans view point on things. But I will say that not everything will work for all families, so on to the task at hand right... Finding the Oasis of Happiness ! This book will make you laugh and Bruce's sense of humor is truely a blessing. His characters are somewhat hillarious but very real ! Bruce you may want to write some family fiction fun ! Family Meetings weekly sounds doable for us... So long as it doesn't become a complain and whine session, which has happened for us here at home. A Morning to Do list... ok this too seems doable and we have tried it, but I guess i have up too soon. There are many ideas in this book. Bruce touches on some subjects that most of us think are taboo in the Christian Realm , Talking to your kids about " SEX" ... and he even has an answer to the " If Mamma ain't happy, nobody is happy" Issue... A Scientifically proven one at that ! Blew me away, even if I had heard it before and most men won't believe it, but oh well... Way to go Bruce ! I have to say that I sorta really enjoyed this book and coming from a man, well it was insightful and I think that all you MEN out there, aught to get this book and read it and take it to heart. Us Women really know these things, but I have to say I learned a lot from this little book. I would highly recommend it to my friends and those of you who are not my friends yet... Get a COPY !!!! Its worth the $15.00 ! It might just help your family and It will make you laugh and help your love life !
I recieved a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest opinion and have recieved no further compensation from doing so.

“School” Your Desk Kindle Giveaway | The Headmistress of Rosemere
Patience Creighton has dedicated herself to the Rosemere School for Young Ladies. But the return of the enigmatic master of the estate puts everything she loves at risk.
Bright, sensible Patience knows what is expected of her. At twenty-five, her opportunity for a family of her own has passed, so she invests herself in teaching at her father’s school for girls. When her father dies suddenly and her brother moves away to London, she is determined to make the school successful.
Confirmed bachelor William Sterling also knows what is expected of him, but mistake after mistake has left him teetering on ruin’s edge. As master of Eastmore Hall he owns a great deal of property — including the land where Rosemere School is located — but possesses little money to manage its upkeep. When debtors start calling, he is desperate to find a new source of income, even if it means sacrificing Rosemere.
When a fire threatens the school grounds, William must decide to what lengths he is willing to go to protect his birthright. And when Patience’s brother returns with a new wife to take over management of the school, Patience suddenly finds herself unsure of her calling. After a surprising truth about William’s past is brought to light, both William and Patience will have to seek God’s plans for their lives—and their hearts.

Day 5: Civil War Era Quilt Book Author Kathleen Tracy
Today I want to introduce you to An Author of some of the very best Civil War Quilting books and Patterns, she also makes jewelry. The Book " The Civil War Sewing Circle" I ordered recently to use with my daughters in their sewing lessons, which will be part of our history lessons as well. You all know that this year, one of my goals is to learn to quilt better, so I have joined Kathy's Quilt Group " Small Quilt Talk " smallquilttalk on Yahoo Groups for making small quilts. You will find the link near the end of my post. I hope you will take a look at the wonderful patterns and books Kathy has on her site and don't forget to download her free ones for lessons for your Little Ladies !
The Civil War Sewing Circle
Remembering Adelia was inspired by the diary that was kept by a young woman during the Civil War. Adelia Thomas' diary had been locked in a trunk in a family's attic for over 100 years. I came across it at a local historical society several years ago while I was researching photos for my last book, Prairie Children and Their Quilts.
Upon glancing through the diary, I discovered that Adelia was a quilter and I became fascinated with her journal entries about daily life on a farm in northern Illinois in 1861, the year the Civil War broke out. I knew I had to tell her story and design quilts to go along with it.
Remembering Adelia features a number of large quilts as well as charming doll quilts and is full of 19th century quilting traditions.
Celebrate the sweet, centuries-old American tradition of antique doll quilts with stories of the past and heirlooms for the future. These simple projects will capture the charm of yesteryear for a child—or the child within.Sixteen designs represent doll quilts made during different periods in American history, starting with the colonial period and moving through the Civil War, the Victorian era, the Great Depression, and World War II. Explore our country’s quilting traditions while you learn some very basic blocks and simple piecing techniques to make simple little doll quilts much like the ones children learned to make long ago. Create authentic-looking doll quilts for your favorite 18-inch doll or just have fun with your reproduction fabric scraps.Projects in a range of sizes up to 20" x 22" include an embroidered medallion quilt, a crazy quilt, Civil War era quilts and needle cases, an Amish quilt and a friendship pillow easy enough for a child to make. Also includes information on fabrics and designs popular during the different historical periods.
What was life like for children growing up on the prairie? Inspired by actual children’s diaries from the American frontier, this follow-up to the bestselling American Doll Quilts gives complete and easy directions to create small, antique-style projects as you read about the lives of pioneer children and their families.
• Fourteen patterns spotlight popular quilt designs from the nineteenth century
• Projects include a signature quilt, a game-board quilt, a schoolhouse quilt, a log cabin quilt, an African American quilt, a prairie doll apron, and a schoolgirl sampler
• See vintage photos of prairie children, and read actual diary entries from children who traveled with their parents to settle in the West
I started quilting by making quilts for my daughter's dolls and made my very first small quilt from a Martingale & Co. pattern book I picked up in 2000. This sparked an interest in quilting history and led to the publication of American Doll Quilts in 2004. I look to antique quilts for inspiration in making simple little quilts and hope that my books make the past come alive for some of you and also give you a connection with quilters from long ago. My third book,Remembering Adelia, came out in March 2009 and the newest one, The Civil War Sewing Circle, was released in January 2011.
Before turning my hobby into a career, I was an editor in the publishing industry for over 20 years. I live in Illinois with my husband, two children and our two dogs. I love reading, gardening, cooking, making simple beaded jewelry with a scrappy look and, of course, dogs.

Day 4: The Quilted Heart Omnibus by Mona Hodgson
The Quilted Heart Omnibus
Like a beautiful patchwork quilt, the three novellas in The Quilted Heart tell stories of lives stitched together with love and God’s unending grace. Once a week, Elsa Brantenberg hosts the Saint Charles Quilting Circle at her farmhouse on the outskirts of the riverside town of St. Charles, Missouri. The ladies who gather there have all experienced heartache related to the intense hardships of the Civil War, and together, they are facing their painful circumstances with friendship and prayer. Can the tattered pieces of their hearts be stitched together by God’s grace?
Dandelions on the Wind
When Maren Jensen took a job on Elsa Brantenberg’s St. Charles, Missouri farm, she never expected to call the place her home. As she grows to love Mrs. Brantenberg and her granddaughter, Gabi, Maren is transformed from a lonely mail-order bride-without-a-groom to a beloved member of the Brantenberg household. But when Gabi’s father, Rutherford “Wooly” Wainwright, returns to the farm unexpectedly, everything changes for Maren, and she feels compelled to find another job. Are her choices in obedience to God, or is she running from His plan?
Bending Toward the Sun
Dedicated to her education and to helping her father in his general store, Emilie Heinrich is convinced she doesn't have time for love. But when a childhood friend returns to St. Charles, Missouri, after serving in the Civil War, his smile and charm captures Emilie’s eye and her heart. Will she be forced to choose between honoring her father and a future with a husband and family of her own?
Ripples Along the Shore
Change is brewing in St. Charles. A group of brave souls are preparing to head west on the Boone's Lick Wagon Train, led by the mysterious and handsome Garrett Cowlishaw, who served as a Confederate soldier in the war that killed Caroline’s husband. Despite her dislike for him, Caroline is tempted to join the wagon train and start fresh somewhere new, but when Mr. Cowlishaw forbids hera single woman to travel with them, will one man’s prejudice destroy Caroline’s hope for a new future? Or will the ripples of God’s love bring the answer she needs?

~My Interview with Mona~
A bit of an author interview : Fifteen years ago, I spent a couple of hours in St. Charles, an enchanting city dating back to the 17-and-1800s. In March 2012 I was finally able to return, and the city, its history, and its peoplefrom times gone by and present daysank deeper into my heart. Imagine my delight when I discovered St. Charles was where Lewis and Clark provisioned for their corps of discovery expedition in 1804. And at the time of my novellas, the riverside city was the stepping off point for the Oregon and Santa Fe Trails, funneling a broad array of people on their journey west. Quilting , Family ect for you ? It was the imagery and metaphor that led me to first speak at women's retreats about The Quilted Heart and then write these stories. I'm not a quilter, but I had two grandmothers who were and my Sis Linda is a quilter. I have the first quilt Linda made to commemorate the birth of my first daughter, Amy. What old fashioned things do you own, save , collect ? Read paperbacks. :-) My hubby is a yard saler. I have a settee, a small caned rocker, a cask, and an Edison phonograph he restored as part of the decor in my office. and any other fun things you want to add..smile BLOG TOUR DRAWING Leave a comment here, then comment on Mona Hodgson Author Page before Friday, January 31st to enter the BLOG TOUR DRAWING for one of three signed copies of The Quilted Heart. My Thoughts:
Being a lover of historical fiction, I so love this series that Mona has written. I have always considered myself a woman born out of my time. I grew up watching shows like Little House on the Prairie, so I automatically feel in love with this series ! Life may be full of hardships, but it is blessed by friendship, love and wholesomeness , that is rare today. I am so looking forward to reading Mona's book Prarie Song, as this series was the prequel to it. I have to say that I wish personally that this story could go on and on... but I suppose that all good things must come to an end but don't you just hate it when a story ends ? Will there be more ? I hope you all will read this series and then go on to read Mona's book Prairie Song, Book 1 in Hearts Seeking Home !

~Families Are Stitched Together With Love ~ Giveaways
Grandpas Farm
Lovingly made by Ruth May Fisher (my grandmother)
for Henry Raymond Fisher (my grandfather)
~ Well many of you know that I was interviewed by Author Mona Hodgson about Quilts in my family and why they mean so much to me. If you never got to read that interview you can find it on her site http://monahodgson.com/2013/12/guest-quilter-1/ ~
Sampler Quilt
Made by Ruth May Fisher (my grandmother)
Baby Quilt lovingly made for Nancy Fisher Davenport (my aunt)
by Bertha Louise Kells ( my great grandmother) Grandma Ruth's Mom.
As you can see, there was much love in our family , my Grandmother Ruth loved my Grandfather Ray a whole bunch and she loved the farm a lot too. We all got to experience that love when we visited the farm. Grandma never started her quilting until older. But through the years there were many ways she showed us that she cared. Awesome food was one way ! My Grandparents loved having the whole family over at the farm for the holidays. My Grandma Ruth loved it when we all grew up and had babies and she loved having us visit them.
As you can see my Great Grandmother Kells was very creative also. She loved to make eye glass pins and felt mittens on clips and I can imagine that her creative side was what spurred my Grandmother Ruth to do so in her later years.
It is that creative spirit that I am sure inspired my mom Gloria Bradt and in turn inspires me today ! I think that is what inspires my sister Jeanette to quilt and sew also. Over the coming days I want to share with you pieces of our lives that include quilts and the things that stitched us together as a family. The farming tradition was carried down by many of us in ways large and small and I know that Grandpas Farm Quilt was my Grandmother Ruths way of showing just that and her love for Grandpa. It is a Legacy of Love ! One we all carry in our Hearts !
Tomorrow, I will share with you another quilt my Grandmother made ! I hope you will come back for a visit.
